About us

A warm home, a young spirit, a stronghold to the land, friendship and spirituality – that's Shvut Rachel.

In November 1991, Rachela Druk, resident of Shiloh and mother of 7 and Isaak Rofe, bus-driver were killed by terrorist fire which was directed at their bus. They were headed to participate at a demonstration in Tel Aviv.
The same night a group of people settled at the place of the murder, today Rechelim. A little later, on the night of the funerals, a group of students from the Shiloh Yeshiva founded Shvut Rachel in the name of the victims.
Since then Shvut Rachel has been growing and is of now teeming with life.

Social fabric

Today, Shvut Rachel is 15 years old and consists of about 100 families. The families here are young. The oldest among the children have just celebrated their Bar/Bat Mitzvas.
Caring for each other and lending a helping hand are values that are highly regarded here, together with general family values. Along the families with children you will find many newlywed couples who add their own special dynamics to the social weave of our community.
Trade wise we have a wide diversity amongst our residents.

 You can find teachers, nurses, programmers, farmers, yeshiva students, independent business people and more. One would be hard pressed to find a couple in our community where the wife's and the husband's religious backgrounds are identical. We believe in diversity. This finds its expression in the synagogue where there is one main minjan alternating between Sefardi and Ashkenasi and an alternative minjan following a Moroccan-Jerusalemite nussach.

Culture and Torah

Our community offers a wide range of Torah lectures for men, women and children alike. The subjects encompass faith, Jewish law, chasidut Gemara, father-child study sessions, psalms and more. Torah classes are under the auspices of Rabbi Ben Tzion Amar, the rabbi of Shvut Rachel.
Culturally there is a diversity of courses available. Further there are shows, workshops, lectures and communal shalosh seudot which are arranged during the year and take place at the community centre.
Our 1st-3rd graders have the opportunity to join the Oz youth movement, whereas the older children take an active part in Bne Akiva. The councilors of the youth movements are girls from the national service.

Location and Climate

Shvut Rachel is located in the Shiloh area in Binyamin. Jerusalem is a 35 min. drive away and the Yarkon junction can be reached within 45 min.
The community is situated on route 60, leading from 

Jerusalem to Tapuach, and connecting to the Alon route which leads to the Jordan Valley route.
The Shiloh area includes the communities of Shiloh, Eli, Ma'ale Levona, Shvut Rachel, Achia, Adei Ad, Esh Kodesh, Givat Harel, Kida and the Red House.
Shvut Rachel lies 780 m above sea. The climate is dry and agreeable in summer and cold in winter.

Comfortable transportation to and from Jerusalem and Ariel is available.
